Senior Accountant Dunn School, an independent boarding and day school grades 6 through 12 is seeking a Senior Accountant. This is an exempt, full-time position that offers competitive compensation and benefits. Background The mission of the Dunn School community is to educate the whole student to his or her fullest potential in preparation for a life of learning and responsible leadership in society. Incorporated as a 501c(3) non-profit educational organization in 1956, Dunn is recognized as a national, regional, and local leader in private education. Dunn School is located near Santa Barbara in Californias lovely central coast. Our school community includes 223 students and 75 faculty and staff. Our campus includes 56 buildings and covers 60 acres. Position Description The Senior Accountant oversees the accounting and payroll functions and assists in the audit, budget and financial reporting. The Senior Accountant reports to the Director of Finance and Business Administration and is part of a team of four employees in the Business Office. Core Duties Prepare and post all monthly journal entries in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles Prepare daily cash receipts, deposits and enter into the general ledger Process and reconcile payroll on a bi-weekly basis Prepare monthly account reconciliations Prepare monthly internal financial statements such as trial balance, statement of activities, budget to actual variance analysis, balance sheet, departmental budget reports and other reports as required Lead the schools annual pre-audit preparation and assist the auditor as required Coordinate shared efforts with the Development, Admissions and Summer Programs departments to ensure: accurate and timely revenue recognition, billing, collections and donor/parent communication, contracting and reporting Perform other tasks as may be assigned in support of the Business Office The successful candidate will respect the confidentiality of information and hold him/herself to the highest ethical standards. The successful candidate will pass all pre-employment background checks allowing him/her to work with children at a school. Competencies The successful candidate will possess the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks/projects simultaneously while adhering to deadlines. Effective verbal and written communication of complex accounting, financial, and service issues is essential. He/She must be able to grasp complexities and perceive relationships among varying problems/issues to determine the best course of action while following school policy. Education & Experience The ideal candidate will hold a minimum of a bachelors degree in accounting (or equivalent relevant experience) with 4-6 years of direct accounting or bookeeping experience; non-profit accounting preferred. Independent/private school experience a plus. Proficiency in Excel, Word, and computerized accounting software is required.
