My role as a Vice President of Accounting and Finance at MacEwan University, has allowed me to utilize my existing skills, such as working with customers, solving complex situation and dealing with Accounting problems. However, my role has also assisted me in developing, and enhancing many skills as well, such as conflict management and strengthening of my leadership skills. Furthermore, my volunteering experiences, such as being the Vice President of Accounting and Finances for the MacEwan University Law Club have given me the opportunity to use my educational knowledge in Accounting to positively contribute towards the growth and success of the club – a club that is highly regarded to students at MacEwan University, as well as the University of Alberta. Through the law club, I have been able to manage the clubs funds, apply for event grants, operational grants, pay invoices, and assist the President in creating large events (120 attendees, with guests flying from Calgary and British Columbia), in terms of allocating our budget in an efficient and effective manner to ensure the success of our event. Most importantly, being VP of Accounting and Finance enabled me to build meaningful connections with law firms and large to medium sized businesses in Edmonton, Calgary, Australia and British Columbia through obtaining sponsorships for our club from these respective law firms and businesses. Hence, I can confidently say that my employment and volunteering experiences have given me valuable knowledge that I can apply in my further endeavors.
