Military Deli & Bakery Services, Inc. (MDBS) is the largest operator of Deli and Bakery departments in military commissaries, with 74 locations across the United States. Military commissaries are government owned shopping facilities operated by the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA). DeCA commissaries look much like a commercial supermarket except they are located on military bases. Commissaries sell groceries and household goods to military service members and their families. MDBS is privately owned and was incorporated in 1996. Today we are a growing and vibrant company with revenues exceeding $70 Million dollars. Our overall business strategy is to increase sales by attracting more customers and finding more items that our current customers want to buy. POSITION SUMMARY: The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the accounting management function of multiple Deli/Bakeries located across the U.S. This position is located in our South Naperville (Aurora) office. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports To: Company President Direct Reports: Accounting Office employees Job Duties and Responsibilities: •Review performance reports with President and Senior Management to identify drivers of variances and provide meaningful input. •Develop and execute a process of continual review of store performance creating improved financial control of the stores. •Establish an internal auditing process to improve financial security. •Support the President by preparing ad hoc reports, account forecasts, re-caps of financial and operational data, and assisting in the budget process. •Maintain the General Ledger and confirm financial status by monitoring revenue and expenses; coordinating the collection, consolidation, evaluation and reporting of financial data. •Review balance sheet reconciliations/reviews and reconcile any issues. •Work with Company CPA to complete timely Quarterly and Annual financial reports. •Coordinate company efforts in response to any internal and external audits. •Coordinate the preparation of quarterly and annual budgets. Monitor costs of operations to identify performance gaps. •Assist President in establishing company-wide best-practices affecting the financial/budget areas. •Responsible to acquire and maintain sufficient insurance coverage for General Liability, Workers Compensation, Property, Vehicle, Umbrella and Employment Practices Liability. •Maintain Company business operating status in multiple states. •Manage purchasing, sale, licensing, registration, insurance and maintenance of company vehicles. •Ensures effective financial processes by managing and maintaining a staff of about six competent personnel involved in data entry into QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions. Job Requirements Required Job Skills and Education: •Minimum of 5-10 years’ work experience in progressively responsible accounting positions. •Minimum of 3 years managing an accounting department with multiple staff positions. •Advanced degree or second undergraduate degree a plus. •Solid knowledge of Accounting disciplines. •Must be a Certified QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions user with literacy in MS office products. •Experience and strong knowledge in Information Technology. •Excellent Written and Oral communication skills. •Proven ability to successfully interact with team members and management at various levels. •Strong leadership and organizational skills. •Flexible work schedule and availability to travel to company operations nation-wide. •Financial experience in a medium-size company operating multi-sites in food retailing a plus. •Experience with Government contracting and the Service Contract Act a plus. This position is located in our South Naperville area office. Extensive travel should be expected for the first 6 months in the position in order to travel to other MDBS sites to learn our business processes. After six months, overnight travel is expected to be less than 2-3 days per quarter.
