Description: Operation Stand Down seeks qualified candidates who are energetic, enthusiastic and committed to veterans and veteran issues for the position of Accountant. The successful candidate will be participating in the agency’s overall financial and administrative processes to include all accounting processes, management of accounts (payable or receivable), and regular auditing and reporting. The successful candidate will also assist with agency operations related to payroll, personnel and mail. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Accounting: 1. Completes a full range of accounting activities for a non-profit agency to include but not be limited to: income and expense data entry into OSDTN Quick Books; preparation of checks for payments; preparation of funds for deposit; preparation of appropriate monthly, quarterly and/or annual accounting statements; and monitoring and/or reconciliation of accounts. 2. Establish and maintain income and/or expense files and related documentation to include: accounts receivables, accounts payable, individual grants administration and special events. 3. Prepares and completes bank transactions/deposits to include regular reconciliation of bank statements. 4. With the Director of Finance, prepares reporting for department, agency and Board of Directors for service /agency analysis. 5. With Director of Finance, assists program directors, supervisors, coordinators with information and understanding of budget and financial processes. 6. Participates with team to identify, develop and implement best practices for agency financial services. 7. Maintains needed documentation of services rendered consistent with agency policy, grant regulations and accepted financial practices. 8. Maintains work consistent with Department / Team Quality Assurance Standards. Agency Administrative Activities: 1. Assists the Director of Finance in the implementation, operation and monitoring of the agency payroll system / processes. 2. Assists the Deputy Executive Director in the maintenance of agency personnel files to include completion of assigned pre-employment paperwork; filing of appropriate paperwork; completion and filing of appropriate end of employment paperwork. 3. Establishes and maintains relationships with appropriate vendors of services and resources for agency operations. 4. Establishes, implements and monitors the agency mail processes. 5. Completes and maintains certification as notary public. General Duties 1. Adheres to Agency and Department policies and procedures 2. Participates in Agency and Department meetings and events, collection of data/information, and Quality Improvement Monitoring and Review. 3. Performs other duties as designated by supervisor or agency Qualifications / Knowledge Position 1. Bachelor degree in accounting / business administration and/or commensurate three or more years of experience accounting or multi-department bookkeeping with reporting responsibilities. 2. Strong preference for those candidates with experience in and knowledge related to non-profit accounting. 3. Strong preference for those candidates with experience in and knowledge related service(s) to veterans Personal 1. Veterans preferred 2. Excellent organizational, multi-tasking and time management skills. 3. Broad capacity for global thinking and creative problem solving 4. Ability to motivate clients toward success. 5. Compassionate, energetic and team focused. Agency 1. Working knowledge of automated data processing programs including windows based programs (QuickBooks, Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point) 2. Possess valid, current Tennessee driver’s license. Physical Demands The employee must be able to: drive a motor vehicle; operate computer equipment; occasionally lift medium weight objects; preform outreach duties in variable weather conditions for street outreach efforts. Work Environment The work environment will reflect differing components of the employee’s job tasks. Accountant activities will be 90% in agency office, with some business with banks and/or vendors completed in the field-10%. Candidate must be able to operate computer, business machines and telephone equipment. Lifting no greater than 10 lbs.
