Business address: 4195 Alexandra Street, Vancouver, BC, V6J 4C6 Work Location: Same as above Type of Employment: Full time – Permanent Start Date: As soon as possible Job Description: • Post journal entries to correct identified discrepancies and refer unresolved discrepancies to the manager. • Reconcile and maintain general ledgers and financial statements such as bank, pre-paid, and accounts receivable by performing tasks such as identifying account discrepancies including missing accruals, incorrect amounts and incorrect items. • Prepare trial balance of books and other statistical, financial and accounting reports • Calculate fixed assets and depreciation • Keep financial records and establish, maintain and balance various accounts using manual and computerized bookkeeping systems • Prepare journal entries from a variety of source documents and keys or imports into computerized system. • Prepare invoices and ensure accurate recording of revenues and receivables. • Prepare donation receipts in accordance with school policy • Ensure all documents received for processing are supported by sufficient documentation, appropriate authorizations and in adherence to school policies. • Take appropriate steps to correct errors as per departmental procedures. • Assist with annual budget preparation by analyzing prior year’s results, preparing cash flow forecasts and other related duties. • Assist with year-end audit by preparing working papers and supporting schedules and by answering queries from auditors. • Provide guidance to employees and students on the school’s financial procedures and respond to queries and requests for financial information as required. • Reconcile accounts, cash receipts with the Front Office and perform bank deposits for cash and cheque payments. • Investigate and resolve any discrepancies in journal entry coding. • Prepare other statistical, financial and accounting reports. Requirements: - Education and experience: Completion of a college program in accounting, bookkeeping or a related field or completion of two years (first level) of a recognized professional accounting program (e.g., Chartered Professional Accountant) or courses in accounting or bookkeeping combined with a minimum of 2 years of experience as a financial or accounting clerk are required. - Computer applications knowledge required: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Windows and MS Outlook. - Training related to BC Privacy legislation is an asset - Knowledge and experience with Sage ERP, Raiser’s Edge (Blackbaud), and GST/PST regulations is a strong asset. - Personal suitability: effective interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral communication skills in English, team player, organized, reliable, ability to multitask, flexibility. - Work conditions and physical capabilities: work under pressure, fast-paced environment, repetitive tasks, tight deadlines, large workload, and attention to detail. - Ability to analyze data and present results in a standard format. - Ability to enter information accurately and efficiently, and to balance the input against batch totals of relevant source documents. Salary: $--... hourly, 30-40 hours per week. Benefits: Dental insurance, disability insurance, and extended medical insurance provided. Benefits are 50% employer-paid, 50% employee paid. Optional Pension Plan with 7% contribution and employer matching; additional 2% employer contribution after 2 worked years. Important Information: This position requires working 8 hours per day, with summer hours of 6 hours per day in July and August. Work schedule: Monday to Friday, workday start and end times are flexible between 7am and 5pm, with core hours of 9 am – 3 pm.
